Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has come under fire over some comments made in the condolence letter he wrote to mourn the demise of the Ogun East former Senator, Buruji Kashamu.
In the letter which went viral, Obasanjo claimed that Kashamu used the maneuver of law and politics to escape justice from the alleged criminal offence in Nigeria and outside.
According to Obasanjo, Kashamu could not escape death as no legal or political maneuver could stop the cold hand of death.
Obasanjo’s comment appears to have invoked the anger of so many Nigerians, who attacked him on the social media, telling him that he too cannot escape death.
Nigerians called out the octogenarian, accusing him of showing hatred towards the dead.
However, many were of the opinion that Obasanjo should have not said those words about the dead, as everybody will die one day, no matter how long.
Below are some of the comments:
@Guavasuko: I have said it before, maybe not in this street. Don’t sugarcoat my actions toward you. I can’t be a good person to all,so spill out your guts and stop pretending even after my death. Obasanjo‘s condolence letter is just real,no pretence.
@henryshield: Dear Chief Obasanjo, that was irresponsible of you sir.
@Naija_PR: This is why Obasanjo is being talked about this morning. See his letter about Buruji Kashamu
@NigeriaStories: If you own a phone/smartphone then You have to appreciate Nigeria Ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo. His administration signed a deal that got mobile phone technologies and telecommunications to Nigeria
@OgbeniDipo: Even when his foes die, it appears Obasanjo doesn’t forgive.
@RealOlaudah: President Olusegun Obasanjo. So blunt for his era, age, status & ethnicity. Hate him, love him, he remains Olusegun Obasanjo. He says it as he sees it! He also remains the president that paid off our foreign debt in totality & gave us a new beginning. History will be kind to him.
@bengbenro: There is a time that one should sheath his/her sword no matter what is the level of animosity. That Obasanjo‘s condolence letter to the family of @BurujiKashamu is a low even for Obasanjo‘s low standard.
@lex_teff: Nigerians love to idolize corrupt leaders and people with questionable character because they are rich.. let us call a spade a spade buruji kashamu was very dirty and corrupt and obasanjo even said how he maneuverd the law in his favor to protect himself.. Nigerians pls be wise
Sambo Dare: “Same way he is not going to escape death and the ultimate judge on the day of reckoning.”
Khadijat Obaro: “Imagine a leader and a student of Theology? He can do better. Our people said you can’t remain someone’s enemy in sickness and death. Baba should have controlled his anger.”
@DrJoeAbah: Hmmm. This supposed Obasanjo letter. I thought that our culture is that every fight ends once one of the parties die? Or is it only in my area?
@Morris_Monye: Obasanjo could not help but take a swipe at his old foe late Sen. Buruji Kashamu. Quite petty
