Arsenal grabbed all three points at Saint Mary’s, all thanks largely to the gifts wrapped by a glaring error from Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy and a late goal from Willock.
McCarthy was at fault for Arsenal’s opening goal after Eddie Nketiah charged down his pass to score.
Southampton charged late on in search of an equaliser, with stand-in keeper Emiliano Martinez superbly denying Shane Long.
An impressive run from the team seems to be yielding great results before all hope got dashed in no time with a red card shown to Jack Stephens.
However, any hopes of a comeback disappeared when Jack Stephens was sent off for a last-man foul on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Joe Willock then reacted with a late goal to double Arsenal’s advantage from the resultant free-kick, reacting to a rebound off McCarthy to seal the win.
The Gunners were 0-2 winners, by so doing returning to winning ways in the restart to the remaining 2019/2020 Premier League campaign.
